Kherson Today
Nowadays Kherson is a city with mighty potential, developed industry, branched out transport and social infrastructure. More than 3,6 thousand enterprises of different patterns of ownership are situated on the city territory with private and joint forms prevailing.
Except Kherson citizens, City Territorial Community comprises citizens of 4 urban-type communities, 6 communities and 3 villages, joined into 3 District Councils within the City Council, 3 Community and 1 Village Council.
Kherson territory coming within the jurisdiction of Kherson City Council is 42286,5 hectares (104 492.22 acres), including 19875,8 hectares (49 114.17 acres) of farming lands. Kherson has an area of 6502,3 hectares (16 067.53 acres).
At the beginning of 2008, quantity of available Kherson City Council population comprised 347.0 thousand people.
In recent years positive tendencies in Kherson social and economic development have been marked, namely - positive dynamics in most branches of economics; increase of industrial goods production output volume; increase of paid consumer services volume; increase of foreign investment volume; increase of budget inpayments and entrepreneurship activation; population revenues and payment increase; maintenance and guaranteeing of stable operation of social infrastructure enterprises.
Positive is the fact that the increase of almost all financial data has been watched in recent years. It is relevant for enterprises’ loss decrease and profitable enterprises quantity increase as well.
Industrial complex remains a weighty sector of city economics. More than 94 large enterprises operate in the city today. It should be noted that the quantity of “big business” enterprises, institutions and organizations increases annually at the expense of enterprises founded and initially operating as “small business” ones. In 2007, 52,8% of 94 operating industrial enterprises were profitable. Taking the lead in the index of industrial production are timber production and furniture production -176,2%; metallurgy - 144,7%, rubber and plastic goods manufacturing - 139,4%. These are the branches of production to be considered the most perspective.
The strategic goal of Kherson city development is the increase of citizens’ scale of life based on economic growth, increase of social securities level and improvement of citizens’ social service, securing of stable operation and development of city life-supporting systems.
