In October Dienis Davydov, a famous poet, a hero of the Patriotic war of 1812, arrived in Kherson to occupy the post of the Head of the 7-th Infantry corps of the @-nd Armyt. Here he founded a Lancaster School for soldiers' children.

The first Red Cross Community of the Medical Nurses was founded in Kherson.

The famous scientist I.K. Pachosskyi organized the Entomology Room at the Zemstvo Council, in which he collected all specimen if flora and fauna of Ukraine and Besarabiya.

After deepening the branches of the river Dnipro the Kherson Port again receives the status of the sea port town and becomes open for foreign commerce.

The Administration of Works of the Kherson Port was founded.

In Kherson the first electric power station appeared. In 1960 in its place the Cinema "Ukrayina" was built.

The Hurevych Agricultural Machine Plant was put into operation; it started the output of the internal combustion engines, threshing machines, sowing-machines, ploughs, harrows and others (now – the Open Joint-Stock Company «Khersonski Kombayny»).

A. Y. Vadon began construction of the shipyard in Karantynnyi Ostriv.

On April 7 and 8 on the vacant lot between the Kherson Gubernia Prison and the Hospital (now - the territory of Zhylmasyv) the famous aviator S. I. Utochkyn demonstrated his flights.

On January 13 in Kherson the Tropin brothers opened a hospital named after their parents Afanasiy and Olha (now they call it "Tropinka").

The Enterprise "Era" specialized in electric installation works, starting and setting-up operations for the vessels of all Dniprovskyi Basin was founded (now - the Open Joint-Stock Company "Dniprovske Pidpryiemstvo Era" (The Dniprovskyi Enterprise Era").

On February 15 the monument to the fallen warriors-internationalists "Mother in Sorrow" was opened.

On August, 20 - Solemn introduction into circulation of the new postage stamp “Kherson region” that was devoted to the 13th Anniversary of the Ukraine’s Independence.

On April, 19 – The «Gifts of Tavria» monument was placed on the square at the main market hall.

On July, 31 - Baron E.O. Fal'ts-Feyn, descendant and head of the famous family-founders of the world-known nature reserve of "Askania-Nova", arrived to Kherson with the purpose to pass the documents of the domestic archive for storage at the Public Record Office of Kherson region.

On May, 19 - The Mother Avenue foundation was laid at the Potemkin’s public garden.
