Hunting Expanses and Fishing
Hunting. The nature of Tavriya is fantastically rich. In Kherson region’s forests and plains there are about 900 wild boars, about 1500 European roe deer, 100 thousand hares, 30 thousand pheasants and many other kinds of animals.
In general in Kherson region there are 100 thousand hectares of forest hunting grounds, and besides – about 1,5 mil. hectares of field and 300 thousand hectares of water-marshland hunting grounds. That is the area where anyone can check his forces and abilities in hunting not only to a roe deer, a dappled deer, but also to a wild boar, a wolf, a fox, a raccoon-looking dog, etc.
Already in May the hunting season starts. But it’s naive to think, that the rifle is the only one necessary thing to go hunting. Any hunter should have a license and a permission for shooting off of definite kinds of animals. These papers are issued by Kherson regional administration of forestry (the administration is located in Kherson) and state hunting services.
In Kherson region, as in all regions of Ukraine, the Law of Ukraine “About hunting services and hunting” is in force. According the article #19 of this document the workers of Kherson regional administration of forestry elaborated the special calendar for hunters. It helps for fans of active way of relaxing to determine and strictly keep the best favorable conditions and terms of hunting.

It is, maybe, unnecessary to remind that the real hunter is a person who not only goes to the forest or water area for a trophy, but also cares about the wild life, care and preserve rare animals and birds. For example, in the Kherson region there is a moufflon, a very beautiful and valuable animal. To preserve it and multiple its quantity the workers of scientific-producing enterprise “Ekofiltr” (the head office is located in Kherson, and the hunting-fishing base is far as 55 km in the Zurupinsk region) annually grow and bring up to 15 moufflons into the wild life.

Fishing. Many years B.C. in the countries of the Black Sea area fishing was an activity of great importance. The Borysfen’s fish wealthy was well known to the old Greeks and the caught and salted fish in big quantities was sold through the whole Rome Empire!
Especially the coastal area of the Black and Azov Seas was rich in fish, and also the areas of low parts of rivers and multiple estuaries. Even the Greek philosopher Herodot described the sturgeon fishing process in the Dnipro.
Nowadays fishing is the most preferable hobby, and any person can not be indifferent to the beauty of the low Dnipro.
In Kherson region, by the Dnipro and its streams, there are wonderful conditions for amateur and sport fishing. Roach and small roach, crucian and carp, bream and rudd, perch and pike, pike perch and cat-fish, that is not the full list of kinds of fish which can be caught in the Kherson region.
The fishing-sport club “Kherson spoon-bait” (the president is the first champion of independent Ukraine in fishing of predatory fish with spinning rod Valeriy Dudchenko) and nongovernmental radio station “Auto radio” 105,6 FМ annually conduct the elite spinning rod competition, which is also called “Kherson spoon-bait”.
For the first time this fishing competition took place in 2001. From this time the best sportsmen-spinning fisherman of our country (and not only of Ukraine) has been fighting for the awards of this competition. From 2004 “Kherson spoon-bait” officially got the state status – “The Cup of Ukraine in fishing of predatory fish with spinning rod from boats” and is held by the patronage of Federation of fishing sport of Ukraine. The winner of this competition, besides multiple valuable awards, gets the high sport rank “Master of sports of Ukraine in fishing-sport”.
Now it is possible to fish alone, having fond a secluded place in the Dnipro estuary, and it is possible to apply for professional help of tourist-firms, hunting-fishing bases, companies specialized in rural tourism. For example, the wonderful opportunities for fishing can be proposed by:
